Autumn Concert
In addition to the ever popular early Elgar Serenade, our September concert features two particularly interesting compositions. Brahms somehow let the younger Dvorák steal the limelight on more than one occasion. He admired, indeed possibly envied, Dvoráks Cello Concerto, and he never wrote an orchestral work for strings. Had he done so, what would it have sounded like? The first String Sextet, which we have adapted for string orchestra, is not quite a Brahms première but as near as we can get!
Despite his Finnish name, Elis Pehkonen is an adopted East Anglian with a love of Scottish history, as those who heard our performance of his Over the Water three years ago will remember. To perform his Viola Concerto we have engaged one of the countrys finest young viola players, Robin Ashwell. It will be a performance of a fascinating new composition that you should not miss.
